​Meeting Highlights

​Syed Asif Gillani warmly welcomed the honorable guests upon their arrival. The core focus of the meeting remained on developing effective strategies for Thalassemia screening and awareness.
​At the conclusion of the session, both organizations successfully reached a consensus to establish a robust Prevention Coordination framework, aiming to work together closely for the screening, early diagnosis, and prevention of Thalassemia.

PATHWEL Marks International Thalassemia Day at PC Rawalpindi

Rawalpindi, 12 May: Pakistan Thalassemia Welfare Society (PATHWEL) organized a ceremony at Pearl Continental Hotel to mark International Thalassemia Day.

The event was attended by children with thalassemia and their families, NGOs, members of the business community, philanthropists, media representatives, hematologists, and PATHWEL staff.

Chief Guest Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan, advisor & national coordinator to the Prime Minister on tourism and a renowned entrepreneur, philanthropist, and business leader, expressed solidarity with children suffering from thalassemia and appreciated PATHWEL’s services for patients. He announced financial support for PATHWEL and urged the business community to join hands in efforts to care, cure, and prevent thalassemia.

Speeches were delivered by Maj Gen Suhaib Ahmed (retd), President of Pakistan Thalassemia Welfare Society (PATHWEL) and Maj Gen Parvez Ahmed (retd), Managing Director of PATHWEL, emphasizing blood donation, awareness, screening, and better treatment facilities.

The ceremony also featured performances by children with thalassemia and concluded with a pledge to work together for a thalassemia-free Pakistan.

PATHWEL–Riphah International University Joint Initiative

Maj Gen (R) Prof. Dr. Parvez Ahmed, Medical Director, Pakistan Thalassemia Welfare Society (PATHWEL), and Maj Gen (R) Prof. Dr. Najm us Saqib Khan, Principal, Islamic International Medical College (Riphah International University), held a productive meeting on April 2, 2026, at Riphah University, Rawalpindi, to discuss the continuation and expansion of areas of mutual interest and collaboration.

The meeting was also attended by Brig (R) Dr. Syed Kamran Mahmood, BMT Physician, PATHWEL, and Brig (R) Dr. Maqsood-ul-Hassan, Vice Principal, Riphah-IIMC, who contributed valuable insights toward strengthening future cooperation between the two institutions.

Financial Support & Transplant Assistance at PATHWEL Hospital Rawalpindi


At PATHWEL Hospital, we are committed to supporting patients with thalassemia and other serious hematological conditions through multiple financial assistance programs. We are currently offering free high resolution HLA typing for thalassemia patients. In addition, free bone marrow transplant is available for residents of Punjab through the Health Card Program for all category of patients. We also have international donor funding that provides 50% sponsorship for bone marrow transplant in 10 thalassemia patients, on a first-come, first-served basis. Furthermore, we facilitate patients in obtaining up to PKR 1 million financial assistance through Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal, which is available for deserving patients. Patients can be referred for assistance.
